Hardscape
The
term “Hardscape” refers to the structural and foundational aspect of your
landscape. This is usually accomplished
with the use of stone, wood and green materials such as composite lumber.
The
Hardscaping services that Harkness Gardens offers include:
Masonry,
such as patios, walls, pathways and driveways.
Carpentry
such as wooden pergolas, decks, fences, walls, boarders, and boxes.
We like to install Hardscapes that still allow water to percolate down into the ground water table. This is achieved by using water permeable materials such as decomposed granite, pervious concrete or by dry setting (no mortar) pavers and patio stone.
Softscape
The
term “Softscape” usually refers to the living and changing aspect of your
landscape, but can also include the moving and shaping of earth or the simple
application of mulch.
Harkness
Gardens offers full Softscaping services, which would span from soil
preparation to proper planting methods and beyond.
Our
Softscaping services include tree, shrub, groundcover and perennial plantings
to specific designs. For example, Accents,
European-style gardens, Japanese-style gardens,
California Native gardens and Drought-Tolerant plantings.
Vegetable Gardens
Harkness
Gardens can design and install functional and edible gardens which, for example, may consist
of raised-bed kitchen gardens, or mixed planting designs that incorporate
harvestable vegetables, flowers and herbs. We can also install composting and
rain-catchment systems to help make your garden self-sustainable.

Water-Wise Lawn Installation
We
can install small or large lawns. Grass
varieties available today mean that even drought-tolerant lawns are as easy as rolling out sod. Think that's cool? Consider a lawn that you only mow once a year!
Irrigation Systems
We
are irrigation specialists and can install fully automated and programmable
conventional (pop-up sprayers) and micro-irrigation (drip lines,
micro-sprayers) systems.
Harkness
Gardens offers full maintenance services to insure your landscape and all of its
many aspects remain beautiful and functional. Our maintenance program involves a periodic schedule of
selective pruning, organic fertilizer amendments, composting, Integrated Pest Management and mulching. Your landscape will look masterfully maintained and have a much more positive impact on the environment.
